Eagle Security Systems systems is a private contractor not affiliated with Gentex Corporation. Eagle does, however, use only Gentex Smoke detectors. We consider the Gentex product to be the best on the market. The information below explains the way the Gentex photo-electric detection system works.

Gentex smoke detectors use the photo-electric method of detection to "see" dangerous smoke particles and signal an appropriate alarm. Photo-electric detectors are preferred in many commerical buildings because they are less prone to false alarms, and detect slow, smoldering fires sooner than ionization-type detectors.

	The Detector Sensing chamber.
	Under normal conditions, light is absorbed by the chamber wall.
	Smoke particles deflect the light onto the sensor, causing an alarm.
